Whenever you read a good book, somewhere in the world a door opens to allow in more light.

Eternal Flame is the story of the Charismatic church. It doesn't start with events in California in 1960, or even with the Welsh Revival in 1904, it begins in Jerusalem with the events of the Feast of Pentecost in AD33.

In this enlightening book, Ralph Burden traces the thread of Spirit-filled Christianity running through the 2000 year history of the Christian church. In a sense this book is an apologetic. Eternal Flame shows convincingly from church history that the popular teaching that the Spirit-filled church was redundant by the time of Constantine and was not resurrected until the early twentieth century is in error. The Spirit-led miracle working church that Jesus began has survived throughout history, even if it was at times an underground movement.

The Roman Cicero said of history, "To be ignorant of what happened before you were born is to remain always a child."

This is an inspired work written to illuminate, to educate and to encourage us that despite the challenging times, God the Holy Spirit has always been there to empower the faithful church. The writer reminds us that the church has an enemy who has tried to bring discouragement and weakness through ignorance. But when Francis Bacon said 'knowledge is power' he was really on to something, because through knowledge of church history every Christian can see that God has never left the church without the authority and freedom available through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Eternal Flame is an excellent read and a great resource.

Foreword by former Fleet Street journalist Charles Gardner

Ralph Burden's No Coincidence is an exciting, intelligent and inspiring little book which I feel honoured to recommend. It is also a most thought-provoking, pithy and challenging presentation of the claims of Christ on our lives told with honesty and integrity. As a one-time partner in a church-planting venture of Ralph's during his time in Yorkshire, I got to know him well and we shared quite a few interests in common including a love of music, athletics and writing. But we also shared lots of jokes - Ralph never started a sermon without one! Although deadly serious in some of the anecdotes included for our benefit here, his sense of humour oils the wheels of the narrative nicely. This is a must-read for sceptics and seekers alike as Ralph has a way of making some powerful points with complete lack of pomposity. At the very least, you will have far less excuses for rejecting God by the time you have finished. And he presents plenty of evidence - both personal and otherwise - for the wonderful discovery that God has a perfect plan for each and every one of us.

Journey into Life is a booklet written by Church of England minister Norman Warren. It explains better than pretty much anything else what it means to be a Christian.

The Bible tells us that the only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ. Our situation was so dire that God had to do something about it, so he sent Jesus his son into the world to heal, to teach and to save all who would listen. This is a great little book. With 30 million distributed, there really isn't anything better.
